I so much enjoyed reading “Fate is a Mountain”. My mom and my aunt are in the book, pictured on page 181. They spent summers with my grandparents in Glacier National Park. I grew up hearing the stories of Glacier, and the story of Smitty’s miraculous survival of the bear attack was a story I had heard many times. It was amazing to read the story from the perspective of those so intimately involved. I loved hearing my grandmother’s stories of Glacier. Reading these stories made me feel like I was sitting in Grandma’s kitchen again, listening to the amazing accounts of their life adventures.
Thank you Mark for sharing your family’s incredible life experiences.
Mark and Smitty,
What a wonderful tribute in Monty’s memory. Father Lloyd and Mother Grace are sure proud of you also.
Love, Laurel Parratt of West Glacier and the Seattle area
Mark,
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the book. Monty and I started teaching together at Marysville Middle School in 1967. You wrote a great story and knowing Monty and Laurel made it so very special. I’d been waiting for the book to be published and was so glad when Laurel told me it was finished. Thank you for sharing all those exciting stories.
We were in Glacier last summer 2009 and stopped by the Montana House where Mark was doing a book signing, when we met him, bought the book and had it signed. My family and I go to the Park every year and reading the book just makes us appreciate it even more. We feel that the Park is a special place and we really enjoyed reading these stories about the Parratt family’s adventures in it.
Found your book on my brothers couch in Butte. Enjoyed many happy summers in Glacier in the 1950’s. Your book broughts back great memories.
